Taste

A first bite, a hint of sweetness, a flavor that lingers. There’s so much to notice when we eat — and so much that can pass us by in the rush of everyday life.

The raisin meditation invites you to slow down and explore a single raisin with your senses. You may notice how easily your mind wanders while eating — and what you discover when you bring your attention back.

This practice is part of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn.

A raisin meditation

  1. Place a raisin in the palm of your hand and take a moment to look at it.
  2. Explore its texture, weight, and shape with your fingertips.
  3. Take in its scent, without needing to judge it.
  4. Slowly place it in your mouth and notice the first taste.
  5. Chew at your own pace and notice how the texture and flavor change.

Schmecken

  5. Kaue in deinem eigenen Tempo und bemerke, was sich verändert.
